Our friends Michael and Laura Abate have one of these paintings hanging in the livingroom of their lovely home in the Washington D.C. area. We were stunned when they told us that there were probably many others. The version they own is nicer than any of these. I am looking on Ebay for one signed by the artist A. Hale, because the monkey paintings by A. Hale are simply the best.
As far as I can tell there must be some company in Mexico that has painters poping these out by the truck load. They are each done by hand by various people with varying skill levels. While not "copies" in a mechanical sense, they do destroy a certain aura of singularity, in a way that I really enjoy.
